Pete BowyerExecutive Director Pete Bowyer is one of the UK’s leading political consultants with about 20 years of experience of public affairs, issues management and public policy. Pete founded Apex Communications in January 2006. Previously he worked for WSPA, where he was senior director and a member of the Public Affairs Board. During his time as a consultant, he has been a senior public affairs adviser to some of the world’s largest companies including Nestlé, McDonalds, DHL International, Kingfisher plc, Unilever, Wrigleys, Viacom, Lilly, Abbott, Zurich Financial Services and Johnson and Johnson. Pete is also a specialist in local government, planning and gambling policy. Amongst others, he has provided senior counsel to Blackpool Borough Council, London Borough of Lewisham, City of London Corporation, Battersea Power Station, British Amusement and Catering Trades Association, the British Greyhound Racing Board, Stanley Casinos and Stanley Bet International.
Pete’s work has been widely recognised by the public affairs industry. He ran The Independent’s campaign against The Times’ predatory pricing (which won the IPR’s Public Affairs Certificate of Excellence in 1999); British Midland’s campaign for Open Skies across the Atlantic (shortlisted for PR Week campaign of the year, 2000) and for the past five years was behind efforts to transform the British seaside resort of Blackpool into the ‘Las Vegas of the North’ through regulated reform of the UK’s archaic gambling laws. This was shortlisted for PR Week’s Public Affair campaign of the year in 2002. Prior to the 1997 General Election, Pete was Media and Policy Adviser to Labour’s Shadow Minister for Sport & Tourism, Rt Hon Tom Pendry MP for whom he drafted Labour’s Sports policy and football policy. During the 1997 Election, Pete worked for the Labour Party as a Press Officer and was responsible for generating publicity in a number of London’s key seats. At 2001 General Election, he worked in the party’s Millbank headquarters for the Party’s Business Relations Unit. After 20 years of membership, Pete remains active in the Labour Party. He is an elected councillor in the London Borough of Lambeth. He is also the Co-ordinator of the All Party Parliamentary Football Group inquiries, which has held 2 inquiries into the governance and finance of football. |
